the Gier exceeds a dike, a district of Givors evacuated
Due to the heavy rainfall which fell on the Rhône this Thursday, the level of the Gier increased significantly.
After flooding the A47, the river also overtook the Givors dike.
Consequently, the police, the Red Cross and the SDMIS firefighters evacuated the Cornets district of Givors at the request of the prefecture to avoid a tragedy.
A reception center was opened for residents at the La Rama recreational center.
The Givors commercial area was also evacuated in the morning, but around a hundred people found themselves trapped and were sheltered in place.
The authorities ask parents not to go to schools to pick up their children, in order to avoid additional accidents. Students are supported by school teams.
