The town center of Annonay in Ardèche is flooded and schools and nurseries are evacuated Thursday morning following heavy rain, the mayor announced. The department has been placed on red flood alert since this morning by Météo France. “The entire flooded city center is evacuated“, the town hall told AFP by telephone.
“As the situation is evolving more quickly than expected, it is imperative to stay at home. All traffic is strictly prohibited in the city center, ongoing overflow of the Deûme”, wrote the City on Facebook. “The entire flooded city center is evacuated”, indicated to AFP the town hall contacted by telephone. On video images broadcast on the networks social groups we could see torrents of water in the streets of the city, with submerged vehicles.
School and urban transport are suspended and seven streets in the city center closed to traffic, the town hall said in a press release.
“Students in secondary schools are now safely confined,” it is specified.
Ardèche was placed on red alert for rain-floods on Thursday and Haute-Loire on red alert for floods due to “exceptional precipitation” and 19 departments are on orange alert, Météo France announced.
