The town center of Annonay in Ardèche is flooded and schools and nurseries are evacuated Thursday morning following heavy rain, the mayor announced. The department has been placed on red flood alert since this morning by Météo . “The entire flooded city center is evacuated“, the town hall told AFP by telephone.

“As the situation is evolving more quickly than expected, it is imperative to stay at home. School and urban transport are suspended and seven streets in the city center closed to traffic, the town hall said in a press release.

“Students in secondary schools are now safely confined,” it is specified.

Ardèche was placed on red alert for rain-floods on Thursday and Haute- on red alert for floods due to “exceptional precipitation” and 19 departments are on orange alert, Météo France announced.
