Twenty young Longueneans, aged 13 to 20, left with the twinning committee for Alfhausen, Germany, Friday May 10.

A European party was organized on site, for young people, by Agnès Droste, mayor of Alfausen, with Michael Steinkamp, ​​representing the European office in Osnabrück; Roman Keller, youth worker; Léna Wehlage, German representative for young people and Swann Taté, youth information representative from Longuenée.

All day long, the young French and Germans were able to exchange ideas with each other and play games together, after having breakfast together, to get to know each other better.explains Swann Taté. In the afternoon, each young person received a t-shirt and many games were organized. An information stand was suitable for all ages, with the presence of a representative of the European office. The young French people were delighted with their day, with the time spent together.

“The next European elections”

They were happy to haveu a day when they could meet only among young people. The language barrier was not felt too much, French and Germans were able to communicate together quite easily.

After breakfast together, the young people had a little time to explore the club and play in several rooms, and outside at board games, billiards, table football, football, basketball -ball or video gamescontinues Léna Wehlage. But the main part of our European Youth Day started at 1 p.m. On the occasion of the next European elections and the novelty in Germany, where for the first time young people will actively participate in this election from the age of 16, the municipality has decided to celebrate the event. All the young people from the surrounding communities were invited, which allowed us to party with 60 people who all received an identical t-shirt dedicated to the European youth festival. In addition to numerous fun opportunities to spend the day, there was also the opportunity to talk to a member of the European office in Osnabrück about the different interests of European politics.It was a very successful day, full of games, fun and a bit of training for the young French and Germans.
