The tragedy occurred shortly before 6 p.m. this Tuesday on Boulevard Malesherbes, near Place de la Madeleine. A 27-year-old cyclist was struck and then fatally run over by a 48-year-old motorist following an argument on the road.
According to witnesses, an altercation broke out between the two men before each separated. However, the motorist would have deliberately hit the cyclist, causing cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite the rapid intervention of emergency services, the young man could not be resuscitated.
The motorist arrested, an investigation opened
The motorist, accompanied by his daughter, aged around ten, was arrested on the spot and placed in police custody at the police station in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. It is now up to investigators from the judicial police to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy. Tests will be carried out to find out if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.
“It’s so violent”
The mayor of the 8th arrondissement, Jeanne d’Hauteserre, went to the scene of the tragedy and expressed her deep emotion: “It is a tragedy, a scene of such violence. There are two broken families tonight. » The scene took place during rush hour, a time when many cyclists and motorists take this route to return home.
