Pickleball, a new racket sport which is developing in France. A club in Grau-du-Roi, in Gard, has made it its specialty and already has a small champion in its ranks.

After the explosion in popularity of padel, discover pickleball! In singles or doubles, this racket sport is played in rounds of 11 points, like ping-pong, and has its own rules.

“The specificity of pickelball is the line close to the net. It is located 2 meters and 13 centimeters on either side of the net and demarcates an area into which you cannot enter” explains Loïs Massiel, Pickleball project manager at the French Tennis Federation (the sport being attached to the FFT, editor’s note). Another specificity, the team must hold the serve to score.

A new sport that appeals to all generations. And pickleball already has a young double French champion. His name is Arthur and he lives in Gard: “it was very fun, and very friendly the first time I tried it. That’s how I completely got hooked on pickleball and stopped playing tennis,” entrusts the 12 year old boy.

In Grau-du-Roi, the Raquettes-club de Port Camargue launched into pickleball 4 years ago and the enthusiasm was immediate. “We put in one court, then two courts… and in three years, we went from 8 to 80 members just for pickleball.”

Pickleball will even be entitled to its first official tournament in Aix-en-Provence, from June 21 to 23.
