“Incredible moment”, “unique day”, “magical”… Backlash (Olympic) for these four “lucky” carriers

the essential
They are high-level athletes, students or simple citizens: these 4 people from Castres have had the chance to carry the Olympic flame in recent days. A daydream for these sports enthusiasts.

They are among some 10,000 lucky people who had the opportunity to carry the flame of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games during its various visits to the national territory. An exceptional relay which marks the start of these Games and which will certainly mark the spirit of these four Castres for life… They tell us.

Safi N’Diaye, the 35-year-old rugby player, with 91 caps for the world XV, carried the flame to Montpellier on May 13. “It went really well, it was just magical and incredible! Everything happened very quickly but I really took full advantage of it, I’m still very emotional because all my loved ones were there, especially my mom and some of my friends who came from Castres on purpose, my friends from the CRFP, the Montpellier players… well, a lot of people! It was really great to have them near me for this moment. I was very, very proud to be able to represent women’s sport and of course, I thought of all my trainers, coaches, my clubs including that of Castres and all the people who helped me get there there and to have this great career. »

Fabien Paslier, 52, manager of Carrefour supermarkets carried the flame to Narbonne. “The day was unique, it was a timeless moment that will remain engraved in my mind for a long time! A day with a lot of emotion and warm exchanges with a large audience. Lots of children with schools on the route, lots of requests for photos, I’m not used to it but we’re getting used to it very well and also great popular fervor around the passage of the flame and all the symbols that relate to it. So I had a very good and great time, and feel very proud to have been able to carry and relay the Olympic flame for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games! I hope that the symbols of peace, fraternity and tolerance conveyed by the Olympic spirit will bring to all a lot of strength and joy in our everyday lives. »

Michel Gervais, 36 years old, educator with the judicial protection of youth, carried the flame through the streets of Saint-Raphaël (83). He says: “I was summoned at 5:40 a.m. to carry the flame at 8:30 a.m. We had a great welcome and a short briefing. I didn’t think there would be so many people to see the flame. People were coming up to me to take photos! I was a little stressed. But as soon as I had the flame in my hands, I was carried away. You enjoy your moment! It will remain an incredible memory, great emotions. In my relay, there was Marielle Goitschel, Olympic ski champion. I had my family nearby. I realize how lucky I was to be able to experience this moment. »

Miriem Amar Ou Ali, 17, studying ice hockey, carried the flame to Font Romeu. The Olympic Games are serious business in her family! So seeing her carry the flame was a very beautiful emotion for everyone. “I passed at 10:38 a.m. I still didn’t believe it. I realized once I had the Olympic flame in my hands. That’s not nothing! It was so good. My only regret is that I ran in a part where the public was not present. But it remains a magical, incredible moment, which will remain engraved. I spent the morning with Perinne Lafont, and Kenza Wahbi, who did the marathon at the Athens Games in 2004! This won’t happen twice! »
