Benoît Payard, a 47-year-old Auvergnat based in Shanghai, China, and founder of the AirNAM brand, won the gold medal at the Lépine competition, Friday May 10, 2024. He received the medal for best inventor for the creation of its incredible means of travel, report Progress And West France.

This is an inflatable cart that can be folded up and stored in a bag. As the vehicle has pedals, it falls into the category of bicycle and can reach around 45 km/h.

Benoît Payard, an engineer graduated from the Catholic School of Arts and Crafts (Ecam) in Lyon, has thought of everything. “There is no suspension but the inflatable chassis help absorb shocks on the road”he explains.

Professionals first, individuals then

He also studied the market: he wants to initially target tourism professionals “such as parks, campsites, golf courses, beaches, open-air hotels”as well, he adds, as motorhome owners or boaters who need a support vehicle.

A first phase of development would make it possible to reduce manufacturing costs and therefore the selling price: the vehicle is currently worth around €10,000. Benoît Payard hopes to lower the cost to €3,000 to be able to reach individuals.
