Treatment day for Mike Matheson

Treatment day for Mike Matheson
Treatment day for Mike Matheson

The Canadian is training this morning after his great victory yesterday against the Ottawa Senators at the Bell Centre.

From the outset, you should know that Mike Matheson is absent from training today.

The defender benefits from a well-deserved day of treatment:

I say that the treatment day is deserved because since the start of the season, Mike Matheson has been playing a lot.

Martin St-Louis is not afraid to use it and it shows in the defender’s playing time:

  • 26:35 against the Leafs on Wednesday
  • 26:08 vs. Bruins Thursday
  • 25:40 against the yesterday

We must not overtax Matheson because the Canadian needs him. That said, seeing him miss today’s training makes sense.

Remember that the Canadiens players will not have a lot of time to rest since they will be in action tomorrow evening at the Bell Centre.

Sidney Crosby’s Penguins will be visiting for the occasion.

This will be another good test for Martin St-Louis’ training: even if the Pens are older, we know that they have the necessary weapons to be dangerous at any time on the ice.

I can’t wait to see who will be the starting goalie in front of the CH net… But seeing how Monty has been doing since the start of the season, he is the one who deserves the chance to showcase himself.

The Quebecer has only allowed one goal out of the 73 shots he has received since the start of the campaign, after all.

And for Cayden Primeau, we know how difficult it was against the Bruins earlier this week…

Prolongation

Let’s note one important thing in closing: just because Mike Matheson is absent from practice today does not mean he is injured.

Barring a turnaround, he should be part of the Montreal team tomorrow evening at the Bell Centre.
