the essential
They came close to death or were faced with threats from armed individuals, ready to fight for a trivial reason. There is no shortage of testimonies in the Pink City.

The public prosecutor of Toulouse, Samuel Vuelta-Simon, noted in our columns last year: “An increase in attacks on people, with 2,000 additional acts compared to 2022. Each year, we record 10,000 additional procedures. It’s a lot,” he commented.

We are indeed pulling out a knife for trivial reasons today. In a village on the outskirts of Toulouse, Joël lives in a cul-de-sac and got into an argument over priority while driving: “the guy takes out a knife and says to me: do you want me to kill you now? A friend was cut on the cheek, a scar for life during a quarrel: there was really the idea of mutilating him, of marking him.
Testimonies of these gratuitous attacks are legion in Toulouse. Patrick was stabbed in the back several years ago during his work: “It was a tense context, I tried to recover equipment that was stolen from us, I felt like a violent punch” A friend tells him “you’ve been stabbed, you don’t even notice it.”

Post-traumatic stress syndrome

Patrick takes off his raincoat, the paramedics examine his wound, his shirt is oozing blood. “There are no bubbles, the lungs are not affected” notes the doctor. “I suddenly felt very weak, I realized that steel had entered my body, my legs were trembling.” Patrick will end up with stitches, a pneumothorax will be diagnosed in intensive care units. He files a complaint, the author of the stabbing will never be found. “I had a narrow escape but I could have stayed there. What followed for the victim was post-traumatic stress syndrome, “I was completely flat, apathetic, my legs cut off. It was my wife who carried me for a few weeks.” Several years later, Patrick still feels phantom pains.
