Four people, including two children, were killed in a gas tank explosion at a gas station in the Chechen city of Grozny on Saturday, the local office of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said. “Personnel of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry extinguished the fire in Grozny. Unfortunately, four people were killed, including two children. The structures are being watered and dismantled,” the press release reads.
The ministry said 35 firefighters and seven fire trucks were deployed to fight the blaze. The area of the fire at the gas station was 900 square meters (0.2 acres), the Emergency Situations Ministry said. Chechnya Governor Ramzan Kadyrov said all those responsible for the fire would be held accountable in accordance with the law, adding that he would personally ensure that this happened. Separately, the local branch of the Russian Health Ministry said five people were lightly injured in the explosion and were treated at the scene. The Russian Investigative Committee told Sputnik that a criminal case had been opened for gross negligence in the provision of services, leading to the death of two or more people.
