Benin lifts export blockade

The Beninese Minister of Mines, Samou Séidou Adambi, announced this Tuesday, May 15 during a press briefing the authorization to load Nigerien oil blocked at Sèmè-Podji into a first Chinese ship

Benin authorizes the loading of Nigerien oil into a first ship. After several days of blockage, the Beninese authorities authorized the loading of the oil on a first ship which anchored in Beninese waters.

According to the Beninese minister, this is a “one-off and provisional” authorization. It is not a guarantee, warns the minister, “of Niger’s behavior.” Samou Séidou Adambi insisted that “Benin intends to keep its commitments within the framework of the agreement.”

The minister also indicated that the Wapco Company requested a Benin-Niger inter-state project management meeting to examine urgent issues related to the proper conduct of oil export operations. He confided that the Beninese authorities have given their agreement for this meeting to be held.
