The author Laurent Gounelle will be on May 17, 2024, at the Dômes de Rivesaltes to present a conference around two of his works: “Intuition” and “Un Monde Almost Perfect”.

Laurent Gounelle became a successful author with The man who wanted to be happy, released in 2006. A book that became a bestseller and translated into 25 languages. A book that also changed his life. Because this specialist in intuitive psychology did not set out to be a writer. Far from there. “I was more destined for the world of economics and finance. After studying economics, I found myself at the age of 23 as a young financial executive. But I realized that I was wrong and that I I wasn’t in my place after five years, I got fired.”.

The beginning of an existential crisis, remembers Laurent Gounelle, which allowed him to immerse himself body and soul in cognitive psychology. And therapy was the trigger for him. “As I was very shy, I had the feeling of learning how I functioned and how others functioned.” He resumed studies in the human sciences and transformed his passion into a profession. Consultant in companies, he “I think I understood, at some point, that decision-making was an essential element of our humanity. That we must stop procrastinating. That we have limiting beliefs that prevent us from doing what is important to us”.

This work of introspection gave him the desire to write The man who wanted to be happy, his first book and his first success. A new passion was born. “I think that every human being seeks to flourish in life, we all seek to be happy. We must therefore learn to decide but we are losing this decision-making in our lives. However, that is what which allows us to exercise our freedom and evolve.”

Reduce our introspection deficit

As in his books, he also finds a new field of expression by offering his audience and readers conferences, or rather “live” experiences in cognitive psychology. “People confide a lot of things to me, their problems. And I tell them to ask themselves this question: what do I want to do in this life to be fulfilled? Very few of us ask ourselves this yet an essential question. Why do we have to wait until we are affected by illness or an accident of life to ask ourselves this question? This is what I try to do in these conferences, to reduce our deficit of introspection? and try to find the way to be happy.”

Conf’Expérience with Laurent Gounelle, presented by the Hermética association this Friday, May 17, 2024, at the Dômes de Rivesaltes, at 8 p.m. Entrance 17 euros, 14 for students.
