“I broke down, I cried”: Mohamed Amra’s mother speaks

“How can we take lives like that? That’s what makes me sick.” The mother of Mohamed Amra, the dangerous fugitive on the run since Tuesday, came out of silence on French radio RTL. And her son’s escape, during which two prison officers were killed, was a difficult moment for her. “I broke down, I cried, I wasn’t feeling well.”

Especially since her son, already convicted several times, indicted, among other things, for “murder by an organized gang, had let nothing appear in front of his mother. “I went to see him in Beaumettes, then he was in isolation, then I went to see him in Évreux, he spoke to me normally, he didn’t show me anything, I don’t understand,” the mother said. microphone. “I don’t know what’s in his head. He’s my son, and he doesn’t talk to me.”

The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, however deplores the way in which her son was treated by the French judicial system. “They lug him from right to left, they put him in solitary confinement instead of judging him once and for all,” she explains. A major manhunt was launched on Tuesday, after the violent escape of Mohamed Amra, which left two people dead and three injured, with one of them facing a life-threatening condition.

“In the Eure department alone”, “more than 450 police officers and gendarmes” were mobilized, said Wednesday on RTL Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, referring to “unprecedented” means deployed. Thanks to “a lot of legal evidence”, he said he hoped “in the coming days (…) to re-arrest” the detainee, but also the “gang of murderers who accompanied him”. Rallies also took place in front of the prisons on Wednesday morning as a sign of “support” for the two prison officers killed.

Interpol issues red notice for fugitive Mohamed Amra

Interpol announced Tuesday that it had issued a red notice to locate repeat offender Mohamed Amra who escaped during the fatal attack on the van transporting him the day before in Eure.

“A red notice was issued at the request of the French authorities who are looking for the escaped prisoner Mohamed Amar, alias “The Fly”,” the international police cooperation organization based in Lyon said on the social network X.
