New tragic accident on the roads of Jura, the third in less than a week. It was 12:46 a.m., Wednesday May 15, 2024, when the firefighters intervened at kilometer point 65.8 of the A39, in the direction Bourg-en-Bresse – Dijon, near the village of Colonne. A pedestrian had just been hit by a light vehicle.

The nine firefighters involved were unfortunately unable to resuscitate the victim, a 29-year-old man, who was declared dead a few minutes after the arrival of emergency services. The two occupants of the vehicle involved in the collision, slightly injured, were transported to Dole hospital center, visibly in shock.

At the time of writing, we do not know more about the circumstances of the accident. The Jura gendarmerie, present on the scene, indicated to France 3 Franche-Comté that an investigation had been opened by the Lons-le-Saunier public prosecutor’s office (Jura) to find out the details of the tragedy. The procedure will indeed have to determine why this man was traveling on foot on a high-speed road.

As a reminder, the Jura department is particularly affected by fatal road accidents in 2024. This new incident is even the third fatal accident in less than a week in the 39. This weekend, it was an octogenarian who was fatally struck by a tractor while crossing a road in the town center of Chaussin. Two days earlier, a motorcyclist in his sixties was killed when he fell in a roundabout in Gevingey.
