The emotion is visible on each face. Prison guards gathered in anger and pain this Wednesday morning in Nantes the day after the attack on a van which left two dead and three seriously injured. The vital prognosis of one of the victims of the very violent attack is still engaged this Wednesday morning, May 15.

Many of them mobilized from 6:30 a.m. for this “dead prison” day. Those who are off duty intend to stay there, the others will only provide a minimum service.

A minute of silence must be observed at 11 a.m. in memory of the victims.

It is the most overcrowded prison center in the region. In Vendée, the context is extremely tense. The striking staff denounce a glaring understaffing. “There has been a shortage of 10 agents for two years. Result?”A mess of overtime from 25 hours to 40 hours and recruitment problems. At the end of their career, a supervisor receives 2,600 net per month, and 700 euros in risk premium.

Representatives of the profession will be received on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Place Vendôme by the Minister of Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti, the chancellery said. The inter-union should on this occasion put on the table a series of demands, “the drastic reduction in extractions in using videoconferencing magistrates or their trips to establishments”, “an overhaul and harmonization of escort levels” or even “the accelerated deployment of cell phone jammers and drone control”.

The agents also claim “better adapted equipment and materials.”

“We can no longer accept penal overpopulation as well as the breakdown of jobs which leave our workforce month after month both on the corridor and in our crews”specifies the press release.

“In any event, this barbarity must remain isolated and the administration’s response must be unequivocal”concludes the inter-union.

The escaped detainee, Mohamed Amraas well as his accomplices are still actively sought. “Unprecedented means of international cooperation and judicial police” are mobilized, assured Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior.
