Currently, Mounière is hosting a traveling exhibition by Lydie Turco, entitled “Strategy of Erasure”, which offered a guided tour. Lydie Turco is an author, photographer and documentary director. While the Franco wave propelled half a million souls out of Spain, his great-grandfather was interned in the Judes camp, while his great-grandmother suffered forced separation from her husband for join one of the multiple accommodation centers scattered across 70 departments. These forgotten structures, individual houses, factories, former prisons, schools… civilian counterparts of internment camps, then house women and children who suffer for many months the agonies of promiscuity, illness, cold…

Having given herself the mission of filling this temporal and geographical hiatus which separated families, of erasing the outrages of the erasure of the memory of these parts of life walled in a deadly silence, Lydie Turco devoted her talents to this meticulous reconstruction. Its exhibition highlights ten family portraits, ten different places. For breadcrumbs, the same process ensures the consistency of this presentation.

A sensitive approach through images

On the one hand, a recent photograph, taken with current techniques, in color, shows the place as it is today; on the other, the family lineage appears in black and white, immortalized with a film camera, in the camera, which depicts the descendants of families who were placed in these places. This sensitive approach through images is supplemented by the research of a historian, Maëlle Maugendre, and enriched by archival documents. This rigorous work was made all the more alive by the presence and the moving testimony of Maria, who was interned as a child in Aubusson prison.

The exhibition is on view until September 14.
