How is the structural work going? The French Building Federation (FFB) published on Monday May 13, 2024 the results of order books for March 2024. Like the construction sector, the figures show a decline which “continues“, with however “a slight decline […] compared to February 2024“.

Order books down 0.2% in March 2024

Order books in structural work experienced an overall decrease of -0.2% in March 2024 compared to the previous month. This is a less significant drop than that observed between January and February (-0.8%) but which is still part of a negative evolution in the number of notebooks since the start of 2024.

However, the situation experienced a slight rebound from November 2023 to January 2024 (+0.9% in November, +1% in December and +0.5% in January), before falling again.

A decline that varies depending on the size of the companies

The general decrease of -0.2% is not uniform depending on the size of the companies. Indeed, those whose workforce is between 10 and 20 employees as well as 51 and 200 even experienced a slightly positive development between February and March 2024 (+0.6%). However, this dynamic is offset by the declines suffered by companies with 21 to 50 and more than 200 employees (respectively -0.9% and -0.6%).

An average of 7.9 months

According to the results of the FFB, order books stood on average at 7.9 months in March 2024. Here again, the duration varies depending on the size of the companies: it is around 4.5 months for companies with 10 to 20 employees and 14.4 for those with a workforce exceeding 200 people.
