May 16 will end, before the Paris Criminal Court, the hearing of the TGV test accident in Eckwersheimon November 14, 2015, leaving 11 dead and 42 injured, traumatizing families and the railway workers community for life.

This accident must be placed, after Brétigny, in the long perspective of the dismantling of the railway system since 1997. In Brétigny, we saw the devastation on living work, from the subjugation of work organizations to the management requirement of ” the Debt” (with the creation of Réseau Ferré de France), with regard to the maintenance of the existing network.

We will see in the fall what the Court will retain in its judgment. But we can already say that certainly for the approval tests of new lines, the actors have now disciplined their relations with traceability of the definition of the program, monitoring of its compliant implementation and formalization of each decision. On the other hand, pressure on working conditions agents overall (including for testers from the Railway Testing Agency (AEF) on other missions), coupled with increased disciplinary repression in recent years (explosion of dismissals for misconduct), do not encourage operators to say “no” – or even to exercise their legal right of withdrawal – faced with an instruction that seems dangerous to them.

It is also for this security issue that SUD-Rail is opposed to the competition for rail transportwhich lead to a limitless balkanization of the system, a terrible promise from other Eckwersheims.
