Jean-Jacques Goldman, his daughter Caroline breaks her silence after her controversial crusade: “I feel like I have won the battle”

Nearly two years ago, Caroline Goldman, daughter of Jean-Jacques, came out of the shadows because of her psychologist’s opinion on the phenomenon of positive education in France. She had thrown a wrench into the pond as a guest on the popular radio station France Inter. Following his position and his denunciation of what is described as positive education, that which advocates “time out” has been increasingly called for in the press. An omnipresence which led her to what The Parisian qualifies as a “media diet”. The daily met with her to take stock.

Author of a successful podcast, doctor in Clinical Psychopathology or more simply psychologist for children and adolescents, Caroline Goldman moved away from the spotlight after having been on all fronts. Advice from his famous father, whose discretion is as powerful as his popularity? She will obviously not refer to the singer-songwriter during her interview with The Parisianpreferring to linger on his work, but not only that.

The interview with the sister of the famous director of the Star Academy Michaël Goldman is also an opportunity for her to return to the accusations that weighed on her. In a column published in The Obs, psychiatrists criticized him for the lack of scientific proof of his words as a psychologist. His “media crusade” against caring or positive education has ended: “I feel all child psychiatry allied with me. I have daily support from great professionals. Renowned psychoanalysts like Claude Halmos, Élisabeth Roudinesco and Caroline Eliacheff have publicly supported me. I feel like I’ve won the battle.”

Caroline Goldman is far from unanimous

Understandable, Caroline Goldman, however, provoked many reactions. That of comedian Elodie Poux on Paris Première in 2023 humorously focuses criticism on his vision of parenting, emphasizing his conflation of laxity and positive parenting: “Laxity is when your child does whatever he wants. Positive parenting means educating your child while respecting him.

Mother of four children who grew up in the Parisian suburb of Montrouge with her famous father and followed the path of psychology initiated by her mother Catherine Morlet, she criticizes the laxity that she associates with caring education. Both supported and criticized, Caroline Goldman maintains her ideas in the face of what she considers to be deviations in the complex work of parenting. It is not unanimous but perhaps because nothing is all good, nor all bad in the different visions of a child’s education.

Busy news for Caroline Goldman

Caroline Goldman comes out this Wednesday from For what ? Short psychology lessons for children aged 8 to 11 (Dunod edition), the second part of a series of four books for children and adolescents.

In August, we will be able to read Today’s Parenting Guide: For Better and For Worse (Flammarion editions). Finally, remember The Parisianin the fall she will launch the podcast version of volume 1 of “Why? Little lessons in psychology”, for children aged 4 to 7.
