It is best to take a good look at what is in front of us before taking any action…

This is what Latvian forward Rodrigo Abols learned on Saturday at the World Hockey Championship. During a duel against Poland, the former Vancouver Canucks prospect was involved in a small melee.

Getting up from the ice surface, the 28-year-old hockey player decided to take the opportunity to deliver a quick punch to an opponent’s face. There was, however, a small problem in his plan: he hit one of the linesmen rather than a Polish skater.

Fortunately for him, Abols immediately realized his mistake and apologized to his victim. He was not punished for his actions.

“I thought a Pole was holding my sweater. I tried to free myself. Unfortunately, there was an official. I apologized a thousand times, even after the match,” Abols said after the game.

“I hope they understand that it was not my intention,” added the one who hopes not to be suspended by the International Ice Hockey Federation.
