Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, best African player in Ligue 1, 2023-2024 season

The best African player playing in French Ligue 1 in 2024 is known. Eleven years after winning the Marc-Vivien Foé prize, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was once again crowned best African footballer in Ligue 1 by the jury made up of journalists, consultants and former players. With 252 points obtained, from a panel of around 80 voters, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is placed ahead of Achraf Hakimi (PSG, 136 points) and Nabil Bentaleb (LOSC, 122 points).

This jury brought together by RFI and France 2024 chose the Gabonese who left the French championship in 2013 with already this prize in hand. After having had the heyday of Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal, he will spend eight months in the shadows at Barcelona before returning to London with the Chelsea FC club.

His return to France, to Marseille last summer at almost 35 years old, did him a lot of good. The Olympian top scorer in Ligue 1 scored a double on Sunday May 12 against FC Lorient to bring his tally to 15 goals. Author of 29 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, the Gabonese was the main architect of his club’s journey in the Europa League to the semi-final with ten goals.

The former AS Saint-Etienne player is applying this evening for the UNFP Trophy for the best player in Ligue 1 season 2023-2024.
