Almost a month after thecriminal fire which devastated around ten huts and the reception building of the leisure park, the Gallic village, in Pleumeur-Bodouwas the victim of a new fire.

The alert was given around 6:15 a.m. on the night of Sunday May 12 to Monday May 13, 2024 by a motorhome driver who notified the town hall.

The new catering structure

We were at the camper van area when we heard an explosion around 5:30 this morning. High flames rose from the house at the top of the village. It was very impressive, you could feel the heat.

The fire started from the rear of the Village and destroyed the entire new catering structure, redone this year: the main building (the large hut located on the left side in the courtyard upon arrival), which had been spared last month.

The flames also affected the rear of the Village, on the staff entrance side, and began to spread into the surrounding woods.

The site was being cordoned off around 9:15 a.m. Smoke was still rising and the fire brigade’s intervention continued, in particular by pumping into the water feature. Two fire trucks were on site as well as the gendarmerie.

Around 9:30 a.m., a 4×4 motorized pump truck reached the rear of the site, towards the woods. Two ambulances and the emergency nursing car were also arriving.

Volunteers in crisis meeting

For director Frédéric Meynand and a dozen volunteers on site, it was a time of despondency mixed with a feeling of revolt. Around 9:30 a.m., the entire team was to meet in crisis unit in the premises of the Planetarium next to the site.

The Gallic Village was due to reopen on May 15. The first fire hit the site precisely on the day it reopened.
