“The presentation of the Golden Ball took place at the People’s Palace during a concert. You know, the President of the Republic accompanied major events with cultural action. It was Pierre Zogo from France Football who accompanied the Golden Ball to Conakry. Everywhere he went through the airports, he put the precious golden ball in a safe. The event brought together the political and social cream. The golden ball was given to me in front of President Ahmed Sékou Touré,” revealed the maestro of Guinean football. Adding that “the late sports journalist Boubacar Kanté greatly contributed to obtaining the Golden Ball. Practically, he was the one who gave me the menu so that I could perform well. We were very good friends.”

The former striker of the legendary club Hafia FC informs that his prestigious trophy disappeared following the looting of the High Command room after the death of the father of national independence.

“He was in the high command room. Everything that Guinean youth had obtained during the time of Sékou Touré, the reward was housed in the High Command room. And it was a Source of pride for the Head of State to present to his visitors the trophies that the youth had won. After the fall of Sékou Touré’s regime, the High Command room was looted. All the trophies have disappeared,” declares the native of Kindia. Assuring that the disappearance of the golden ball did not affect him.

” No not at all. It’s a duty accomplished. We cannot falsify history. The whole world remembers that in 1972 Chérif Souleymane won the golden ball.

Proud of his career as a great footballer, Chérif Souleymane confided to RFI that he “was decorated as a knight of the Order of National Merit. It gave me the opportunity to go to the courthouse to free prisoners… All that is priceless. »
