A drop in prices never seen since August 2022

Ah, how good it feels! Spring is here, the sun is coming back and with it another piece of beautiful news: the price of internet boxes is finally decreasing. In any case, this is what the Ariase Price Barometer for May 2024 reveals. The price study reveals in fact that the price of internet boxes, which has exceeded €30 monthly for almost two years, is finally dropped back to around €29.

€29.57 is precisely the average price you will have to pay, in May 2024, for its entry-level fiber internet box. A rather affordable amount for all households. It’s been a while since such a low price has been seen on internet boxes. As Ariase notes, “The annual evolution of the index is falling for the first time since August 2022 and falls below the symbolic threshold of €30/month“.

Two operators are lowering the prices of internet boxes

If this drop in prices is significant enough to be noticed, it is interesting to know why the overall price of internet boxes is decreasing. And you will see that it is not a coincidence. Indeed, the overall decrease is explained by significant changes to pricing policies of certain operators but also thanks to the appearance of a brand new internet box.

At Orange, in April 2024, we met a brand new Livebox : the Just Livebox Special Series. This brand new Orange offer is quite special since it is a dual-play offer, which includes only fiber and telephony. It is therefore the absence of television service which causes its price to drop considerably: only €19.99/month for six months (then €33.99/month).

If you look closely, it is a serious competitor to the Bbox fit, the entry-level offer without TV from Bouygues Telecom, which resembles it in every way. We now have a real, inexpensive box at Orange!

Another operator which is actively participating in this reduction in prices: Bouygues Telecom. How ? Quite simply in radically changing its pricing policy. The operator has in fact extended the promotional period of its internet boxes by increasing it from 6 to 12 months of reduced rate. A considerable drop in price, which is particularly noticeable on the Bbox fit, its entry-level offer.

The Ariase Barometer highlights notable changes at Orange and Bouygues Telecom, but we must also not forget the ultra low price of the Sosh Box which caps at €15.99 over six months and the price without promotion of the RED Box, which bring great momentum to the internet box market !
