The rains will not have spared the Vendée. Wednesday, October 9, the Kirk depression hit the department. In the morning, the island of Noirmoutier was at the heart of the bad weather.
It was then the commune of Challans which suffered significant rain. These caused several floods.
Closed businesses
The rain fell almost continuously all day. This intensified at the beginning of the afternoon which created flooding in several places in the city.
On the Conforama side, the situation seemed particularly critical. Several traders in the area had to close their doors and cancel events. This is the case of the Cocoon Bar and the Bulle d’Hair hair salon.
On social networks, the manager posted a photograph of the place where it could be seen that she had tried to set up a dam in order to prevent water from entering the establishment.
South of Challans, route du Marechau, a tree was reported on the road. With the rain, some could be uprooted.
Many interventions
The floods led to numerous problems among individuals, particularly with regard to roofs. “Usually I do 8 to 10 procedures per day. There I am at around thirty and I still have almost 40 emails waiting,” underlines Bryan Juvin, of the PBS coverage company.
The interventions are particularly impressive. “The roof of a hair salon collapsed under the weight of the rain. I was also forced to cover the roofs of several houses,” he emphasizes.
The surrounding municipalities affected
Towns near Challans also experienced considerable damage. This is the case of Bois-de-Céné at least one of the roads was completely flooded.
On Facebook, Yoann Grall, the mayor of the town, explained that “the storm is generating an overload of the rainwater networks” and invited residents to “drive slowly to avoid any aquaplaning accidents”.
HAS Garnacheseveral roads were also flooded. The City reminded residents to remain cautious.
HAS Commequiers also many roads were underwater. The municipality wanted to inform residents that they should try to limit their travel as much as possible.
