Director of the National Observatory of Supply and Prices at the Ministry of Trade and Export Development, Ramzi Trabelsi, told TAP that the downward trend in prices will continue in this period, particularly for potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash and most varieties of fruit (peaches, apricots, melons, watermelons, plums and summer apples).

He also indicated that the price levels recorded during the previous month are generally satisfactory for most products (potatoes, onions, peas, green beans, apples, strawberries, Maltese oranges, etc.).

On the other hand, the official recognized that the prices of white meats, particularly poultry, recorded an upward trend from the second half of April, which continued until the end of the month and then gradually decrease during the first week of May.

According to data from the Supply and Price Observatory, the quantities of agricultural products flowing into the Bir El Kassa wholesale market during the month of April 2024 increased by 18% compared to the month of April 2023. This mainly concerns fruits (+116%), while the quantities of fish (-47%) and vegetables (-1%) have decreased.

The increase in quantities arriving at the Bir El Kassaa wholesale market, particularly the quantities of fruit, was reflected in price levels during the same period, reducing the average price of fruit by around 52%. and that of vegetables by around 13%, thus lowering the overall average price of agricultural products by around 5%.
