Part of the bridge in the village of Simal, located in the district of Fimela in Fatick, collapsed this Tuesday morning, May 11, 2024.

This bridge connecting the community to the rest of the region collapsed this morning, plunging the population into a state of shock and dismay, particularly due to a serious problem of accessibility, reports RTS.

Cheikh Sadibou Ndong and Abdou Diamé, residents of the locality, shared their concerns, highlighting the disastrous consequences that could result from the authorities’ inaction.

“We are in constant danger. We appeal to the authorities. If the tide rises, the sand will wash away and we risk getting stuck. Our livelihoods are threatened, especially in this pre-winter period,” declared Cheikh Sadibou Ndong.

The urgency of the situation is exacerbated by the fact that this bridge was erected before the adoption of Act 3 of decentralization, leaving the community in a state of vulnerability without adequate access to education, health care and basic services.

Faced with this looming crisis, people are imploring state authorities to urgently intervene to restore vital access to their village and ensure the safety of all residents. Immediate measures are essential to avoid further deterioration of the situation and guarantee the well-being of the residents of Simal.
