A fire of unknown origin broke out this Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the Almamy Samory Touré camp, home to the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.

The fire broke out far from sensitive areas of the camp, assured the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Army (DIRPA), Toumany Camara, who stressed that the fire was quickly brought under control.

From the main fuel depot to the EDG material depot, markets, houses and vehicles, etc., fires have been very frequent in Conakry in recent months, to the point that the Prime Minister does not exclude the possibility of criminality.

“Look at the way in which our difficulties with electricity supply are being exploited. And sometimes in the most… I don’t even know how to describe it. The EDG material depot which catches fire, with millions of dollars swallowed up because certain groups want at all costs to keep the country in a logic where they vampirize the economy for their own interests, regardless of the needs of the Guinean population. That’s a crime,” he denounced yesterday Friday at a press conference.

Faced with this situation, Amadou Oury Bah said he had conducted investigations to identify those responsible and punish them.

“I have asked the police and gendarmerie authorities to carry out investigations as quickly as possible so that this matter is not treated lightly. Furthermore, during yesterday’s Council of Ministers, the President personally tasked me with overseeing in-depth investigations in this area, in order to identify those responsible and ensure that justice is delivered expeditiously. This level of vampirization of the state process reflects the mentality we observe in certain sectors. »
