Up to 28°C this Saturday: “first hot day of the year” in Brittany

“The heat threshold being 25°C, Brittany experienced its first hot day of the year this Saturday,” indicates Jérôme Dréano, meteorologist at Météo Bretagne. In most Breton municipalities, the temperature reached 25°C, with the exception of those located on the north coast. “Due to an east-northeast wind coming from the sea, temperatures were cooler in this part of the Channel coast than in southern Brittany,” explains Jérôme Dréano.

28°C in Plesder, 27.9°C in Pleslin-Trigavou…

Among the temperatures recorded, Saturday, at 5 p.m.: 28 °C in Plesder (35), 27.9 °C in Pleslin-Trigavou (22), 27.8 °C in La Noë-Blanche (35), 27.6 °C in Arzal (56), 27.3 °C in Guer (56), 27.2 °C in Camors (56), 27.1 °C in Pleyber-Christ (29) and Sainte-Marie (35), 26.9 °C in Auray (56), 26.6 °C in Coray (29) and Guipavas (29), 26.3 °C in Groix (56), 26.1 °C in Saint-Ségal (29) , 25.6 °C in Quimper, 25.1 °C in Kerpert (22), 24.1 °C in Belle-Ile (56)…

“Overall, we recorded temperatures worthy of summer”

On the other hand, it was 17.4°C on the island of Batz (29), 18.4°C in Ploumanac’h (22), 19.2° in Saint-Cast-le-Guildo (22), 19.4°C in Bréhat (22), 19.8°C in Pordic (22)… As for the water temperature, it reached an average of 12-13° in the Channel and 13-14°C in South Britain.

“Overall, we recorded summer-like temperatures. This is not exceptional, because we are not breaking records, but these are still quite unusual temperatures for May 11,” comments the meteorologist.

“Loss of ten degrees in two days”

“But that will change next week with a disrupted situation,” warns the specialist. On Monday, we will only have temperatures ranging from 15°C to 16°C maximum, a loss of ten degrees in two days.”

Thus, this Sunday, “the wind will shift to the southwest and temperatures will be much cooler on the Atlantic coast where they should not exceed 16 to 18°C. Temperatures which will rise to 22, 23 or even 24°C in the north-east of Côtes-d’Armor and the north of Ille-et-Vilaine. In Finistère, we should not exceed 20 degrees. The sun should be more present in Finistère but in the rest of the region, it will be more complicated.”

“Risk of storms” and return of rain and wind

Illustration: “Sunday, the sky will be much heavier with clouds and at the end of the afternoon, there is a risk of storms in the north-east of Côtes-d’Armor and in Ille-et-Vilaine”. And for Monday, Jérôme Dréano forecasts “a rainy disturbance which will cross Brittany from east to west with good rain and a strengthening of the south-southwest wind, which can blow up to 70 km/h over the Atlantic coast and 50-60 km/h inland, especially in Finistère.
