A man presented himself at the Niort police station this Saturday afternoon. The accident in which he was involved caused several injuries, including a woman who was seriously injured and transported to Poitiers University Hospital.

The man behind the accident which occurred last night in Niort was wanted by investigators. Finally, the suspected driver presented himself at the city police station this Saturday afternoon. He has been in police custody since 3:15 p.m.
He is a 53 year old man. Investigators must in particular verify that it was really him who was driving.

Around 1 a.m., a vehicle ran a red light, hitting a car that was going green. The events took place on avenue de La Rochelle, in the Deux-Sèvres prefecture. The vehicle causing the collision then struck three people, a man and two women aged around 30. They were then on the sidewalk. They were leaving a nearby restaurant.

The two pedestrians were seriously injured. One of them had to be transported to Poitiers University Hospital in serious condition.

During the collision, the other vehicle which turned green was carrying seven people, who were slightly injured and released from hospital.

The circumstances of this accident, the explanation for the hit-and-run, then the presentation of the alleged perpetrator to investigators remain to be clarified.
