While the remains of Hurricane Kirk are expected to reach in the middle of the week, Météo France services place the department of in yellow “Rain-flood” vigilance this Monday, October 7, 2024, from 6 p.m. to Tuesday, October 8, 12 p.m., as well as a yellow “Thunderstorm” vigilance, from Monday, 8 p.m. to Tuesday, 2 p.m. An orange “Rain-Flood” warning is also expected from 10 p.m. Monday evening to 10 a.m. the next morning.

Intense rains during the night of October 7 to 8 in Gard

From this evening of Monday October 7, the rains intensify on the Cévennes around 10 p.m., which could also take on a stormy character. But it is above all in second part of the night from Monday to Tuesday and early Tuesday morning that the intensities of heaviest rain are expected, which could reach around 100mm in three hours.

These heavy rains may also temporarily extend to Gard plains in the second part of the night from Monday to Tuesday and early morning of Tuesday, however with lower accumulations (30 to 40 mm/h).

Thus, over the entire episode, between Monday evening and Tuesday morning (i.e. around 12 p.m.), the cumulative rainfall risks locally approaching 150 to 200 mm, or even locally 200 mm on the edge of the Ardèche.

Waves and flood phenomena in the Gard

Of the dangerous waves, up to 2.50 m tonight, are forecast on the Gard coastline for the duration of the meteorological episode. The rivers of Gard are placed on yellow alert for a flood phenomenon (see their evolution on vigicrues.gouv.fr).

The rain-storm disturbance evacuates from the east late Tuesday morning. There is no expected stationary phenomenon.

Gardois called to be vigilant during the weather alert

The Prefecture of Gard reminds the population that it is important to limit travel throughout the duration of the alert. Never embark on a path of submerged circulation or partially submerged. Do not commit to a pont submersible or a ford if it is closed or begins to be submerged. The condition of roads and bridges will be reported on the inforoute30 website.
