The Jury Prize as well as the Youth Jury Prize were awarded to “Scream Of My Blood, a Gogol Bordello Story” by Nate Pommer. We follow the journey of the punk group Gogol Bordello, who use their music as a rallying cry for the country of origin of several of their musicians, Ukraine, whose sovereignty and cultural identity are threatened.

The group is well known in Pau since they performed in 2018 on the stage of the Théâtre de Verdure for a memorable concert where more than 3,000 spectators attended.

Soon back at Méliès

Two other prizes were awarded for the occasion. “Mo’Zar”, by Sébastien Petretti, won the jury’s special mention. This film tells the story of Nolwenn, an introverted child, who dreams in music, stuck between the walls of a disadvantaged neighborhood of Port-Louis. Finally, the audience prize was awarded to “Dusty And Stones” by Jesse Rudoy. The latter tells the improbable destiny of this duo of musicians from a small African kingdom, on their way to Texas.

These films will soon be reprogrammed at the Méliès for a special screening around the winners of this 2024 edition of Rock This Town.
