At the microphone of RMC, the wife of the Franco-Israeli hostage Ofer Kalderon, kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023 in Israel, asks the French government to do more to obtain the release of all those still captive.
One year after October 7, the time for commemorations. In Israel, several hundred people gathered in Reim this Monday morning, at the scene of the Nova music festival massacre. It was 6:29 a.m. there. The music playing that day was played, before being abruptly interrupted to symbolize the moment of the attack.
That day, 1,200 people were killed by Hamas and 250 kidnapped. Many have since been released, but some remain in captivity. This is the case of two Franco-Israelis, Ohad Yahalomi and Ofer Kalderon. A year of detention and an endless wait for Ofer’s family, and in particular for Erez and Sahar, his children who were themselves ex-hostages. Their mother, Hadas Kalderon, spoke to RMC.
“I have all the memories coming back to today. I even have the impression that there are going to be terrorist attacks everywhere. You know, October 7 is not ancient history. We have been living without Ofer, the father of my children, for a year, and they tell me that they were hostages for 52 days. We can’t believe he was able to survive in such conditions for so long. They see their father in their dreams, well in their nightmares, and in mine too. I see all the hostages, screaming for help.”
“We will always fight for him”
Hadas Kalderon asks France to do everything to free the hostages. “I would like to leave a message to the French government: I think they can do more,” she emphasizes. “Fight for them. And to Ofer, even if I think he cannot listen to French radio , I would like to tell him to stay strong as he has always been. We will always fight for him,” she says.
