The duty to remember is a priority for the city’s elected officials. Thus, a day in tribute to a great resistance fighter will be organized.

At the initiative of Souvenir Français, and as part of the “Seasons of Memory” dedicated to “Villeneuve in the history of the Resistance”, a tribute will be paid on Friday May 17 to Marguerite Brouillet, resistance fighter from Villeneuve, executed in 1944 in a camp in Bas-Rhin.

This tribute will take place in two stages: at 11 a.m., at the Marguerite-Brouillet school (Sainte-Radegonde district), the students of the school, made aware of the history of the woman who gave her name to their school, will gather to pay homage to him. The reading of a poem by CM2 students followed by the interpretation of

“Song of the supporters” by all the students of the school will accompany this moment. Parents of students as well as residents of the Monmarès-Sainte-Radegonde district are invited to join in this tribute paid by the youngest to Marguerite Brouillet. This moment of contemplation is part of the process of raising awareness of the local history of the Resistance and the importance given by the municipality to the transmission of memory to the younger generations of all those who opposed the Nazi barbarism and who fought for freedom at the risk of their lives.

At 3:30 p.m., at the Sainte-Catherine cemetery, the Villeneuvois are invited to join the ceremony organized under the aegis of French Remembrance, with the participation of 3rd grade students from the Defense class of the Sainte-Catherine institute.

This tribute will be paid in the presence of Guillaume Lepers, mayor of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Gérard Régnier, deputy mayor in charge of Combatant World, and Bernard Duperray, president of the local committee of French Remembrance.
