An accident on the A61 in Castelnaudary (Aude) led to major traffic jams and a significantly longer journey time between Toulouse and Narbonne this Wednesday morning. Traffic was also very slow on the A9 in the Montpellier region and the A64 south of Toulouse.

Patience. It was needed this Wednesday morning to go from Toulouse to Narbonne on the A61 motorway. An accident in Castelnaudary (Aude) caused very serious traffic jams on this day of departures for the May 8 and Ascension bridge. Around twenty kilometers of slowdowns were recorded. The journey time between Toulouse and Narbonne has increased to 2 hours 20 minutes. Normally, it is 1h10 when traffic is fluid.

At 10 a.m. this Wednesday morning, the first traffic jams appear at the Toulouse Sud tollbooth on the Toulouse ring road. Shortly after the A66/A61 junction, new slowdowns began again towards the Mediterranean. They extended to the exit of Castelnaudary. Beyond that, traffic was smooth again until Narbonne. It was recommended to leave the A61 at Villefranche-de-Lauragais.

The Castelnaudary accident ended mid-morning which allowed the slowdowns to begin to dissipate. At midday, a succession of slowdowns were spotted on the A61.

Big black spots in Occitania

Another black spot this Wednesday morning: on the A9 just before arriving at Sète towards Narbonne (km 112), a car was on fire in the left lane. Around 13 km of slowdowns had been recorded since crossing Montpellier. Slowdowns were also reported on the A9 towards Spain. Traffic was significantly slowed down for around thirty kilometers between Perpignan and the border with Spain.

Traffic was also busy towards the Pyrenees at the end of the morning with several kilometers of slowdowns on the A64 at Muret, south of Toulouse.
