It has not escaped you, if you are between Lille and Paris, the spring sunshine expected this afternoon is absent. The low clouds are very tenacious, limiting the rise in temperature with an autumnal feeling.

While the mildness was expected to return this afternoon with a maximum of 20°C, it is the freshness that prevails this Wednesday with very low temperatures north of Paris towards Lille, of only 12 to 15°C, a mid-October level.

A supply of humidity from the North Sea responsible

This morning, the sky became cloudy around 6 to 8 a.m. in the Paris region. While they were expected to gradually break up over the course of the day, these low clouds persisted longer than expected. This situation is linked to the advection of humid air from the North Sea. If such a situation is classic in the cold season when low clouds coming from the North Sea keep it gray all day long between Lille and Paris, it is less frequent at the beginning of May. Indeed, at this time of year, the sun is already high in the sky and it is easier to dissipate the gray weather.

Tomorrow Thursday: can the same situation repeat itself?

The anticyclone present off the coast of Brittany this Wednesday will tend to reach the English Channel. With the orientation of the wind to the east, the flow will become continental. There will be less humidity in the lower layers of the atmosphere. As a result, the cloud cover will be thinner and the temperatures will be higher than this afternoon: Thursday afternoon, despite numerous cumulus clouds, the feeling will finally become spring-like with 20°C expected between Paris and Lille.
