Great day this Wednesday in the Paris 2024 Olympic adventure. The flame arrived in Marseille aboard the Bélem and for the occasion, the organizers unveiled the official musical theme of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Composed by Victor Le Masne, “Parade” was recorded with the National Orchestra of France, the Choir and the Maîtrise de Radio France. The theme, which combines epic tones and evokes the French Touch, will be played for the first time live this Wednesday by the Marseille Philharmonic Orchestra from the Palais du Pharo.

This theme will be played throughout the Games, including “at each relay stage“of the flame. It will be declined”in a plurality of versions with evolving sounds and rhythms depending on the occasion“, indicated the organizers. Victor Le Masne was chosen by Thomas Jollythe artistic director of the Olympic ceremonies, with whom he worked on the rock opera “Starmania“, by modernizing the musical score.

“It’s almost a heritage mission”

Aged 42, Victor Le Masne, producer and arranger, is known for having worked with Philippe Katerine, Bernard Lavilliers, Juliette Armanet and Justice. “I took the matter very seriously. I sat down at the piano, I started to make this melody, then I imagined a symphony orchestra, choirs, children singing. I am very happy“, he explained on -.

You obviously have to be up to it. It is almost a heritage mission. There is a bit of the country at stake“, he says. Victor le Masne is not at his first attempt since he had already composed an adaptation of La Marseillaise for the closing ceremony in Tokyo for the handover with Paris 2024. “I was asked to reinvent a Marseillaise. I had already done this somewhat daredevil exercise. So I continued“, he explained.

The Marseillaise takes over Paris

To find inspiration, Victor le Masne placed his piano in front of YouTube while watching the greatest sporting exploits. Athletes “are completely carried, there is a kind of breathing which is in fact very musical. If we translate that musically, it’s obviously very, very rich. I hope I lived up to all these emotions. But sport is so narrative, so much happens in sport that for a composer, it’s a gift“, he continued.
