On Sister Island, a 29-year-old Mauritian was arrested and imprisoned by local authorities for having made “terrorist threats” on social networks regarding the organization of the next Olympic Games in Paris.

Based on information provided by Interpol France investigators, the Mauritanian authorities arrested a 29-year-old man suspected of having made “terrorist threats” on social networks.

The man based in the locality of L’Escalier, in the south of Soeur Island, allegedly wrote a post in which he indicated that he wanted to prevent the holding of the Paris Olympic Games which are due to begin on July 26.

He was brought this Wednesday, May 8 before the Port-Louis court, where, according to the Mauritian media, he was the subject of a provisional accusation of “Terrorism hoax”, literally “a false terrorist alert” in French, under the Mauritius Prevention of Terrorism Act (“Prevention of Terrorism Act”)Prevention of Terrorism Act”).

The Défi Media journalists add that justice did not follow up on the request for release made by the suspect’s lawyer. He therefore remains in pre-trial detention.

Interpol France services were able to determine that the publication had been made from Mauritius. The international criminal police organization thus turned to local authorities, and in particular the CCID, the Mauritian criminal brigade which managed to identify the suspect using his IP address, reports the newspaper Le Mauricien.

The young man’s electronic devices were seized for examination. The investigation continues.
