Floods in southern Brazil have killed at least 100 people, new report shows

Brazilian authorities indicated this Wednesday, May 8, that the flooding in the south of the country had caused at least 100 deaths. Many residents also had to be evacuated.

The Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul is experiencing spectacular and devastating floods at the beginning of May 2024. These caused at least 100 deaths, local authorities announced this Wednesday, May 8. A previous report, published in the morning, reported 95 dead and more than 370 injured.

More than 150,000 evacuated

In Porto Alegre, the regional capital, and in more than 400 localities, more than 159,000 people have already had to leave their homes due to the impressive rise in water caused by bad weather throughout the last week.
