Charente-Maritime: the explosion of a HLM residence leaves three injured, including one seriously

On the night of Tuesday May 7 to Wednesday May 8, a HLM building in Puilboreau, near La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), exploded, several local media report. The incident reportedly left two people lightly injured and one seriously injured.

The seriously injured person’s life prognosis is said to be in jeopardy. The latter had to have his leg amputated and was transported to Poitiers University Hospital by helicopter, indicate our colleagues from France 3.

The explosion was heard around 4:30 a.m. The explosion apparently occurred on the third floor of this building, in a new apartment where a single person lived.

The trail of a gas leak?

A major emergency response system was deployed. Around forty people were evacuated and taken care of in the neighboring village hall. A medical-psychological unit has also been set up.

The neighboring building, a Domitys residence for the elderly, was also hit without any injuries to residents or employees. Everyone was able to return to their accommodation in the morning.

The main cause would be a gas leak, according to France Bleu.
