Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Saturday that he would take part in the international summit on Ukraine’s defense in Germany next week, which his American counterpart Joe Biden is also due to attend.

“We are preparing for the 25th Ramstein meeting on October 12, which will be the first to take place at leadership level” of the approximately 50 countries supporting Ukraine, he said on social media.

Mr Zelensky said he would present “clear and concrete measures towards a just end to the war”ensuring that Russia could be stopped by “the determination of partners and the strengthening of Ukraine”. This meeting will come at a crucial moment for Ukraine before the presidential election in the United States in November, which could call into question, in the event of Donald Trump’s victory, American support, crucial for kyiv.

It will also take place while more and more voices, including among kyiv’s allies, are calling for negotiations with Russia, which Mr. Zelensky refuses.

Ukraine has also been insistently demanding for months to be able to strike Russian territory in depth with long-range Western missiles, but several countries, including the United States, refuse it for fear of an escalation with Moscow.
