LSixteen people injured in a road accident involving a Brussels Capital/Ixelles police minibus that occurred on Saturday afternoon in Laeken are now out of danger, the Brussels prosecutor’s office said on Monday. “At this stage, the circumstances of the accident are not yet clear, but the investigation is continuing,” the prosecution said.

“Saturday, around 1:30 p.m., an accident occurred at the intersection between square Jules De Trooz and avenue de la Reine. The first vehicle involved is a private car carrying two occupants and the second a minibus with two inspectors from the Brussels-Capital / Ixelles police zone on board,” said the spokesperson for the prosecution, Yasmina Vanoverschelde. The two inspectors accompanied 12 future police officers as part of a discovery day of the police zone in question.

During the accident, the two occupants of the first vehicle were injured without anyone being in critical condition or in danger of death. They were taken to hospital for treatment.

The police officers who were in the van were also taken to hospital with minor injuries. “In the meantime, everyone has been allowed to leave the hospital. Both cars are heavily damaged,” explained the prosecution. The latter opened an investigation. Images from CCTV cameras were seized for analysis.

“At this stage it is unclear what happened, but the investigation continues. Until the camera analysis and other investigative tasks are completed, no conclusions can be drawn,” the prosecution emphasized.
