Journalist, writer, father of the famous dictation, Bernard Pivot died at the age of 89 this Monday, May 6, 2024. He was one of the great promoters of literature on television from Apostrophes in 1975, via Bouillon de Culture in 2001, until the Goncourt academy of which he was a member until 2019.

What could be more normal than that its archives are kept at Imec (memories institute of contemporary publishing), at the Ardenne Abbey in Saint-Germain-la-Blanche-Herbe near Caen (Calvados). As its name suggests, Imec carefully guards what makes the history of modern literature.

“A smuggler of literature”

Bernard Pivot’s archives made their debut at Imec in 2020. These include production files, interview transcriptions, general correspondence with editors and authors, “and specific controversial files, in particular with Régis Debray, Maurice Druon, Roger Peyrefitte or Jean-Edern Hallieremphasized at the time in West France Imec officials. The entry of his archives into the Imec collections contributes to establishing the great work of “transmitter of literature” carried out by Bernard Pivot. »
