It is today that the Maple Leafs players and Sheldon Keefe will take their end-of-season assessment. As for the club bosses, this will be done a little later this week, i.e. Thursday.

Obviously, all eyes are currently on Sheldon Keefe. After all, while Brendan Shanahan and Mitch Marner are also likely to leave, Keefe is the most… packable.

And what he did in the last days didn’t help his cause.

We all know that while we wait to know his fate, speculation is rife. Everyone sees him losing his job and not everyone imagines him at the helm of another club.

But wait before you think he’ll be barred from the NHL forever.

Elliotte Friedman, on the sidelines of today’s episode of his podcast 32 Thoughts, believes that one day, if Sheldon Keefe has a driving job in the NHL somewhere other than Toronto, he could be successful.

You can listen to his speech here, for those interested.

Obviously, if Keefe does lose his job this week, it’s possible he won’t be hired in the current coaching hiring cycle. It could wait a bit.

That said, with coaches dropping like flies, he could get his chance any day.

Remember that the Penguins of Kyle Dubas, his former boss in the OHL, AHL and NHL, could part ways with Mike Sullivan if the latter were to be traded to New Jersey.

This could be an opportunity for Keefe.

Note also that the adage is that coaches are at their peak during their second chance as an NHL coach. This could be true for Keefe outside of the hot Toronto market.

To be continued, obviously.

A lot of

– Signed in New Jersey.

– The Golden Knights haven’t heard the last of their elimination.

– To note.

– For soccer fans.

– We must protect everyone.
