The second generation of Xiaomi TV Box S does not really stand out from its predecessor in terms of design, apart from one detail. With the “Mi” prefix removed from its title, the case sports a different engraving, now in the image of the Chinese manufacturer’s logo. In addition to this slight modification, the Xiaomi TV Box S 2nd Gen displays the same square format as before with identical dimensions (95.25 x 95.25 x 16.7 mm) and again with false airs of Apple TV.
With its new ARM Cortex-A55 supported by a Mali-G32 MP2 GPU, this second generation can boast of having more power and it also includes a brand new HDMI 2.1 port. In addition to a 4K and 60 fps display, this box is now capable of supporting HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD formats. The quantities of RAM and storage, for their part, do not change, these are respectively 2 GB and 8 GB.
From Android TV to Google TV
The major change between the first and second generation of Xiaomi TV Box S is the move to a new interface. Instead of Android TV, the Xiaomi TV Box S 2nd Gen uses Google TV and all the associated features. This time we have a more fluid interface with the entire catalog of Play Store applications. Not to mention that Google Assistant is integrated, like Chromecast, to stream content from a connected device.
Navigating the interface is intuitive, especially since the new remote control included in the packaging also incorporates some changes. In addition to being larger than its predecessor, two new shortcut buttons have appeared: YouTube and access to the applications menu. The Netflix and Amazon Prime Video buttons still answer the call. Finally, another new button allows you to invoke Google Assistant.
