Fire in Kronospan: two people injured

On Saturday afternoon, an industrial building at the Kronospan company in Sanem caught fire: two employees were slightly injured.

Saturday May 4, around 2:40 p.m., the Emergency Rescue Center was alerted for a fire in an industrial building on the Kronospan company site in the Gadderscheier industrial zone in Sanem.

While an initial fight against the fire was carried out by a factory intervention team, the first CGDIS units, upon their arrival, faced a fire in a hall which had spread to neighboring facilities.

At 6 p.m., the fire was completely under control, but teams remained on site to check that all the residue of the fire was extinguished, particularly in difficult-to-access places at height.

The human toll shows two slightly injured employees, evacuated to hospital and two other employees treated on site by CGDIS teams.

In total, 80 firefighters from 7 fire and rescue centers (CIS) were engaged as well as the reconnaissance and intervention group in dangerous environments (GRIMP), the operational technological support group (GATO) and the center logistics support (CSL).

As a reminder, this same factory had already suffered a large fire in 2019: firefighters fought against the flames for two days.
