According to the prefecture, 7,900 people were present on Saturday May 4 afternoon in Châteauroux to pay a final tribute to Matisse. The 15-year-old was killed by another teenager of the same age at the end of April.

Around 7,900 people, according to the authorities, responded to pay a final tribute to Matisse, this Saturday, May 4, in Châteauroux. Starting from Place La Fayette, the procession passed in front of the important places in the teenager’s life. Starting with his old school, where his teacher spoke up to remind us of the “shy” but caring boy he was. The march then observed a moment of contemplation at his parents’ restaurant, where Matisse worked as an apprentice.

Despite the rain, the parade took place in a calm spirit, as wished by the relatives of the boy who was killed at the age of 15, on April 27, with a stabbing weapon by another teenager of the same age. “The idea from the start is to look like Matou, I want something that is in a good mood,” his father declared on France 3.

Finally, returning to the starting point, the parade ended with an impressive balloon release.

Political recovery

The day before this march, Friday May 3, nationalist activists displayed tricolor flags and banners in front of the Châteauroux town hall. One of the participants, dressed all in black, read a text echoing the death of Matisse, concluding with these words: “Afghans, out!”, reports France Bleu Berry.

This explicitly nationalist conclusion refers to the nationality of the perpetrator of the crime. The mobilization took place even though Matisse’s father had repeatedly called for his son’s death not to be taken up politically.
