On the evening of her disappearance, Maddie McCann and her family stayed at a hotel complex in Praia da Luz, 300 km south of Lisbon. Originally from Leicester, England, the family enjoys vacations in the sun with friends. But on May 3, 2007, Kate and Gerry McCann, Maddie’s parents, decided to go to the restaurant without their children. They then left their eldest daughter in a room in the rental apartment.

That evening, the little Maddie disappears and will never show any sign of life again. The little girl was not alone in the home. His brother, Sean, and his sister, Amélie, aged two at the time, were in the other bedroom of the apartment. Since Maddie’s disappearance, the McCann family has been scrutinized by the whole world. Long suspected, parents Gerry and Kate do their best to protect their twins, Sean and Amélie. The two children saw their lives turned upside down after the tragic disappearance of their big sister.

Amélie and Sean McCann: what happens to them?

According to the Daily Mail, on 1er February 2024, the twins celebrated their 18th birthday. The teenagers would be in their final year in a Loughborough Catholic School, located in the county of Leicestershire, England. Still according to the Daily Mail, the twins Amélie and Sean are very close. They would participate in many sporting activities : triathlons, swimming championships, cross-country races, etc. Several years ago, the mother of the McCann family made rare confidences to the Sun magazine.

She mentioned in particular her twins, who have lived without their sister since they were very young. “ They have their own friends and they keep busy and they’re really sporty, but their only wish is for their big sister to come home”, she confided. “ We miss our entire family of five”, admitted Kate McCann. On May 3, 2023, on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the disappearance of Maddie McCann, Amélie was photographed for the first time, alongside her mother. The girl was at a ceremony in the village of Rothley, Leicestershire.

Investigation into Maddie McCann’s disappearance still ongoing

In March 2024, the UK Home Office awarded the sum of 100,000 pounds sterling to restart the investigation. Since 2011, Operation Grange investigators have continued their investigations thanks to £13 million injected by the government.

On May 2, 2024, the German trial Christian Brueckner, who remains the main suspect in the case, started. The man, already indicted for rape and accused of sexual assault and pedophilia, denies any involvement in the disappearance of the little girl. During the trial, a London police detective explained that it was a former friend of the suspect who contacted them. He allegedly admitted to having had a discussion with the German concerning little Maddie. Christian Brueckner then declared thatshe didn’t scream during his kidnapping. This trial could bring a major turning point in the case, even if nothing proves today that Christian Brueckner is linked to the disappearance of the little girl.
