she says, recalling a mission with the health reserve in a maternity ward in Mayotte.“There are permanent missions, in Guyana, Mayotte, but also in mainland France” reports Mariea 43-year-old nurse who went on mission as a reservist. “It’s not a vacation”

she testifies. “But it allows you to discover new regions, new services, other ways of working… I have made a lot of progress with the health reserve. »They are doctors, nurses, caregivers, midwives… And are involved in this network of volunteer health professionals, under the supervision of the Ministry of Health, deployed in the event of force majeure. “It is still in an exceptional health situation and it is limited in time” specifies Catherine Lemorton, doctor of pharmacy and head of the health reserve.

“For a hurricane, a natural disaster, or even a meningitis epidemic, which requires sending caregivers to vaccinate quickly…” she continues. Health establishments (hospitals, nursing homes) call on volunteers, viaregional health agencies or by ministerial decree, after which an alert is sent to all reservists, whose professions are requested. Candidates are then selected based on their profile, availability and mobility. The duration of missions can range from a few days to three weeks.

“We never manage to completely fill out the request, but when we arrive, they welcome us with open arms” adds Catherine Lemorton.
