Cinema evening with the Millau twinning committee

Saturday May 4 at 8 p.m., the Millau – Mealhada Twinning Committee is organizing a special evening at the Millau Cinema to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Carnation Revolution.

The Committee, after a presentation of this key date in the History of Portugal, proposes the broadcast of the Portuguese film (subtitled in French) “Captains of April” made in 2000 by actress and director Maria de Medeiros.

This exciting and touching film recounts the events during the night of April 24 to 25, 1974, where young rebel soldiers, the April Captains, launched a coup d’état supported by the population eager for freedom.

This unique Revolution in the world will put an end in a few hours to the Salazar dictatorship, the longest in Europe during the 20th century. Come discover or rediscover this unfairly overlooked event. The young director manages to capture the unspeakable: the movement of ideas, the incredible hope born that day. Something like the beginning of a dream.

After the screening, a friendly drink will be offered by the twinning committee around Portuguese specialties and will close the Portuguese and Lusophone Cultural Fortnight.

An evening in partnership with the MJC Cinema Club and the Millau Cinema. Entrance: reduced price €6.50
